Where It All Began

2007

The Sock Drawer

Back in 2007, our founder Brooke English opened a tiny, colorful shop in her hometown of San Luis Obispo, CA called The Sock Drawer. The walls were packed with novelty socks, laughter, and a kind of easy warmth that made people feel right at home.

It started as a small idea and a big leap, fueled by Brooke’s entrepreneurial spirit and her belief that retail could be more than a simple transaction. She wanted to create a space that made people smile, sparked connection, and celebrated the little things that make life fun.

The Sock Drawer Online

By 2010, she took that little shop online with a small but mighty team who shared her energy and vision. Together, they built one of the largest novelty sock websites in the world. It was hands-on, joyful, and full of heart, and it became the foundation for everything that came next.

Growing Into Something More

Over time, The Sock Drawer evolved from a sock shop into a full-fledged gifting brand. We expanded beyond socks into joyful, everyday gifts — and later, into a corporate gifting partner that introduced genuine heart into the business world.

Corporate Gifting

That spirit carried into our next venture: Brightlane.

Drawing on everything we’d learned in retail and e-commerce, Brightlane began creating and managing company stores for global brands, turning everyday merchandise into meaningful brand moments.

The Next Chapter

And then came Courduroy, a natural next step and a full-circle moment.

We built Courduroy in Tin City, the vibrant industrial community in Paso Robles, California. What began as a handful of warehouse buildings has grown into something extraordinary. It is a collaborative hub where winemakers, brewers, distillers, and makers work side by side, sharing tools, ideas, and a genuine love of craft.

Our Connection to Tin City

Our connection to Tin City runs deeper than most. It is part of a family story, a place that feels like both home and heritage. Brooke’s dad built this community from the ground up, his creativity matched only by his visionary talents. When he passed away unexpectedly, Brooke shifted her focus to carrying his vision forward, continuing the community he created and the spirit that defined it. Out of that season of transition came Courduroy, part tribute and part next chapter.

With nearly twenty years of experience in retail, e-commerce, and brand storytelling, Tin City became our new home to bring together everything we know about connection, creativity, and craft. Drawing on the strengths of our incredibly talented team of designers, curators, and storytellers, we poured our collective experience, heart, and soul into this venture.

Built together with Brooke’s dad’s longtime construction crew and our creative team, Courduroy is the culmination of our journey. It is a physical expression of our shared passion for design, discovery, connection, and the appreciation of things made with care. It is a blend of story and structure, a nod to the spirit of Tin City, and something distinctly our own.

Why We Exist

At Courduroy, we believe good things still exist — a story worth telling, honest work, art for art’s sake, a proper belly laugh, and chasing sunsets.

We created this space to bring the spirit of those moments home: beautiful (gotta-have-it) finds for the good stuff of life.

What We Believe In

Courduroy is a celebration of curiosity, craftsmanship, and connection. Every piece is chosen with purpose — for how it feels, what it says, and how it fits into daily life.

We believe in the quiet power of the ordinary object: something beautiful, useful, and just a little unexpected.

How Courduroy Got Its Name (and That Extra “U”)

We get that one a lot — and honestly, we love telling the story.

Brooke’s been a Pearl Jam fan for as long as she can remember, and one of her favorite songs has always been Corduroy, an ode to authenticity and staying true. But it has become so much more than a song. The texture of corduroy, the vertical ridges, strong and reliable, mirrors the tin siding that lines the buildings the community her dad built and she now stewards. It felt like their two worlds meeting in the middle: his craftsmanship and her storytelling truly woven together.

As for the “u”?  That was Brooke’s doing many years ago.  Her quiet rebellion, a wink, a way of making it hers.

Courduroy isn’t just a name. It’s a bridge — between people, places, and the lines that connect them.

To us, it’s Courduroy — and it just fits.

Welcome to Courduroy
